When I came back from Laos in early 2017, I had all-over-the-place ideas igniting my creativity involving textiles, natural dyes, weaving, and hand-stitching, none of which I knew much about, of course.
So I did two things. First, I went to my friend Sush at Studio Pause. We started meeting again for what we called ‘Us Pause’. We’d have crazy discussions about art and ideas, make connections between unlikely things, and ‘pause’ to work on our projects. The second thing I did was take a hand stitching class with Julie Booth at The Art League. Suddenly my world opened up to learning different kinds of stitches, to hand-dying fabric, and to manipulating fabric and thread in unique ways.
My hand stitching work is a reflection of the past year experimenting in a new medium - textiles and hand-stitching, and nature’s continuing influence on my work.
